Capoeira Instruments

There are several insuments used in the capoeira music:

• Agogo – one or two bells instruments coming from the Yoruba music.

• Atabaque – a big hand drum made of wood

• Berimbau - percussion instrument used by the Africans in speaking with ancestors.

• Pandeiro  - small frame drum very similar to tambourine

• Reco-Reco – a percussion instrument producing ratchet-like sound

However, it is not necessary to use all of the capoeira instruments in the Roda. It may be only the Berimbau, or Berimbau and Pandeiro, etc. In any Roda though there should not be more than 3 Berimbaus, 2 Pandeiros, 1 Agogo, 1 Reco-Reco and 1 Atabaque.
